#— ai rambles#sorry guys i’m still stuck here but i think these additions and that thread shed so much light on the deeper meaning behind gege’s latest#sketch of satoru’s genpuku ceremony that i just had to share it here with you all#im spiraling so bad bc the distinction between genpuku and seijin no hi is so important even though gege put that ? there#like hes just a guy 😭 but like him choosing the former rly speaks volumes about the tone and weight of that moment#to me it looks like seijin no hi is like more personal and celebratory while genpuku is a public and duty bound ritual#it’s not just about becoming and adult it’s sort of a contract and stepping into service taking on responsibilities and pledging loyalty to#the clan 🥲#so for satoru this moment wasn’t symbolic it was binding#now his short hair makes so much more sense bc it wasn’t just a style choice#it was part of a rigid formal performance of identity expected from the heir of one of the big three clans#the name change thing is mind blowing to me like WHAT DO U MEAN#did satoru have another name before that? bc that’s just so sad 🥲#if satoru is the name he took on at genpuku then it’s not just a name but a role and that just makes him all the more tragic#like he’s long buried that younger self in service of the one who could carry the weight of being the strongest 🥲#also i think the clans have their own private education systems like satoru didn’t need to attend jujutsu tech but he CHOSE to#that in itself is a subtle act of rebellion and so the genpuku basically is the clans last attempt at control to symbolically tether him#back to his roots and the irony is so heartbreaking bc by accepting the genpuku satoru traded lifelong obligation for the freedom to attend#school outside of clan jurisdiction it’s literally tragedy hidden in plain sight that satoru’s autonomy always came at a cost#that part with kento shot me dead bc once again this sketch of gege isn’t just for nothing#ofc there’s something deeper in it 😭#GEGE WHEN I CATCH YEOOWWW#[ ♡ ] — satoru

The headlines about the recent disaster at the Palace were screaming from every newspaper. The event was discussed by every self-respecting TV and radio show, in every cultured circle, or even by people who couldn't care less about culture or theatre, because people of all levels of sophistication (or lack therof) love talking about bad news.
"Palace's Principal dancer Oddett, and several Solists missing the day of the Grande Premiere!"
"Attendees infuriated by the last performance!"
"One disaster after another! Valuable showmuds lost because of the CEO's incompetence?"
And as it's certainly easier to pick a scapegoat rather than acknowledge the broader issue causing unrest across all of Mudos, the media happily threw Delvona under the buss... Not that it wasn't deserved.
"Recordings leaked of Madame Delvona threatening her dancers!"
"Delvona killing her own performers??"
"That Oktigi can't be trusted with the responsibility over such culturally significant place."
"Is the Palace going down?"
...
Back in Nolybab, in a small library hidden in the narrow side street, Mr. Lukem sat at his office desk with a stack of newspapers in front of him, deep in thought. Outwardly he was very still and calm, nothing giving away that in this moment he was coming to a very big and risky decision.
Finally, Lukem turned to his dial phone.
"Benjamin, come to my office, please."
"On my way, sir." A voice answered back before the glukkon hang up.
As soon as the lanky librarian Mudokon walked into the office, Mr. Lukem got straight to the point without wasting words.
"Gather your belongings. I'll be closing the library shortly..."
"Sorry?.. we're closing the library early today?" The Mudokon asked, not understanding the scope of the implication at first.
"No. We're closing it for good." The glukkon clarified. "I'm afraid it's time to leave this little hiding place behind. It seems that the Palace needs me."
"You're closing the library?.." Benny went pale as the meaning of the words finally reached him. "But-... H-how much time do I have?"
"You have until tomorrow."
The Mudokons eyes widened even more.
"But Mr. Lukem!- what am I going to do- I-i have nowhere else to go.." He pleaded in panic, faced with the thought of being suddenly kicked back out into the big cold city.
"No, Benny. Perhaps I haven't made myself clear. We are going to the Palace. I'll still need an assistant after all."
